How to make the most of your wedding photographer

February 4, 2017

You only get one shot at your wedding, so its important to make the most of the time you have with your wedding photographer and get the best pictures possible on your special day! Here are a few ways to ensure that you and your photographer can work together in the most efficient way possible, so that you receive amazing and beautiful images of your wedding day.

 1) Get Friendly

Spending time with somebody you like and are comfortable being around will always result in a more positive experience for everyone! If you like and are comfortable around your wedding photographer, it will reflect positively in the images he or she takes of you. It is very likely that your photographer is a friendly, social and easy-to-get-along-with guy or gal, since wedding photography attracts that style of person. Go out for a coffee before the wedding or grab lunch!

On your wedding day, you will spend anywhere between 6 and 18 hours with your photographer, so having a fun and relaxed relationship with them will make your day more enjoyable, stress-free and most importantly, fun!

2) Communicate your ideas

Your wedding day is all about you, and as a photographer it is our job to make your dreams come true! We love to hear your thoughts and ideas, and are eager to discuss your vision for the perfect wedding so we can try to capture it for you.

If you have been inspired by photos you have seen on Google, Instagram, Pinterest or anywhere else, show your photographer! The more we know about your vision and idea of the perfect wedding, the more we can tailor your photos to perfectly encapsulate your day forever.

3) Listen to your photographer

Your photographer has probably shot hundreds of weddings, and has a venerable cornucopia of ideas to discuss with you for your wedding. This point draws back to point number 2, communication is vital to ensure you make the most of your photographer and receive the most amazing set of images possible.

As a photographer, we have mountains of experience with image composition, posing, capturing candid moments, and more. Discuss with your photographer about their ideas for your wedding as well, they probably have a huge amount of excellent ideas, some of which you may not have even considered!

Finally, like any technology, there are limitations to what photographers are able to capture with their cameras. You may have an idea which is not feasible for any of a number of reasons, so it is best to discuss your ideas with your photographer, and listen to their thoughts and suggestions.
